Data Integration & Ontology Working Group(s) Report and Deliverables

Ontology Summary Introduced BIRNLex –Principles –Structure Community involvement Core Neuroanatomy BIRNLex and BIRN tools –Annotation of data –Integration with other tools Mediator Workflows Next steps

Continued Development of BIRNLex Anatomical working group: –David Kennedy, Christine Fennema-Notestine, Maryan Martone, Allan MacKenzie Graham, Gully Burns –Define a high level “core” anatomy for mammalian species Assemble “parts” list with definitions defining location Take segmentations used by Freesurfer/MBAT/QA and try to define them in terms of BIRNLex Action Item: –Hold a workshop to bring this group together to develop and apply BIRNLex neuroanatomy

BIRNLex Version 1.0 –Finish cleaning up current version –Prepare two manuscripts: Process of constructing BIRNLex BIRNLex –BIRNLex to be submitted to OBO Foundary –Release OWL file to public

BIRNLex and BIRN Tools BIRNLex needs to be transitioned from its current state into a tool that will support: –Community contribution Set up Wiki Form in the short term –Anatomical forum Bonfire will be lexical repository –Must support bulk upload –Machine access Mediator-BIRNLex –Mediator support for OWL –Map source term indices to BIRNLex (automatically?) –,Amarnath, Jeff, Bill to meet to create software and systems requirements specification Xcede -BIRNLex –Action Item: Get two groups together to see how Xcede can utilize BIRNLex

Data Integration Summary Current Status of data integration deployment –Hands-on work as part of test bed meetings and AHM as well Status and needs for –Data registration –Query services –Semantic Markup (i.e. with BIRNLex) –Notification services due to changes in the source or integrated schema

Data Integration Deployment Collaborative work on-going to integrate data integration in test bed tools –Ensure collaborative activities continue –Data integration team working on web service queries work with XCEDE working group to finalize XML based services –Morphometry BIRN: ensure integration of XNAT –Investigate the use of “Dashboards” (i.e. some automated methods) to determine correctly functioning data sources

Data Integration & Ontologies BIRNLex and Data Integration Services exist… –Augment current database information with semantic information (i.e. follow-up on Ontology Bootcamp) –Enhance data registration tool to allow semantic tagging of database content –Service to provide information on what data is not currently or correctly semantically registered –Services for notification of changes in semantic content
