He is the messenger of the gods

 He is The god of travel, messengers, trade, thievery, cunning wiles, language, writing, diplomacy, athletics, and animal husbandry.

He wears a winged hat, winged sandals, and a golden staff twined with serpents.

He is Clever, bold, determined, athletic, a powerful magician. Can charm monsters with his flute or lyre music.

The Greek god Hermes stole 40 cows from his half-brother Apollo's herd, by tying straw to their tails and his feet. He was able conceal their tracks. He was nonetheless caught by Apollo and managed to make peace with an offering of the first lyre, which he had just created. After that he never stole again.

At a young age Hermes had fallen in love with a nymph. The nymph was the mother of Pan the god of nature. Pan's mother was terrified of him because he had the legs and horns of a goat and was covered in fur. Hermes still loved his son and was delighted by his odd looks. Hermes brought Pan to the other gods of Olympus, and they loved his appearance and thought he was funny. Pan was sent back down to Earth as the protector of nature, hinters, shepherds, sheep and goats.
