Practice Answer the question in your science notebook. SHOW YOUR CALCULATIONS. You can work with your table group if you need to. Tom’s small boat has a volume of 500,000 cc. How much mass can the boat hold before it starts to sink (on a fresh water lake)?

Practice Tom’s small boat has a volume of 500,000 cc. How much mass can the boat hold before it starts to sink (on a fresh water lake)? Density of water is 1 g/mL – so the Density of the boat must be less than 1g/mL Set problem up equal to a density of 1g/mL 1 g/cc = _____________ / 500,000cc What divided by 500,000 will give you 1? 500,000  500,000g So, the boat can hold any amount less than 500,000g!

Practice Answer the question in your science notebook. SHOW YOUR CALCULATIONS. You can work with your table group if you need to. Minion Dave sells fruit from his canoe in Indonesia. The volume of his canoe is 600,000 cc. A box of bananas has a mass of 20 kg. How many boxes of bananas can Dave put in his canoe before it sinks?

Practice Density of water is 1 g/mL – so the Density of the boat must be less than 1g/mL Set problem up equal to a density of 1g/mL 1 g/cc = _____________ / 600,000cc What divided by 600,000 will give you 1? 600,000  600,000g So, the boat can hold any amount less than 600,000g! Now divide that by 20kg per box of bananas – 600kg / 20kg = 30 boxes So, He can’t hold more than 29 boxes! Minion Dave sells fruit from his canoe in Indonesia. The volume of his canoe is 600,000 cc. A box of bananas has a mass of 20 kg. How many boxes of bananas can Dave put in his canoe before it sinks? *Convert to like terms!
