Kids at Hop

Kids at Hope is not a program- Kids at Hope is a strategic, cultural framework designed to engage all adults in support of the success of all children/youth, NO Exceptions!

Kids at Hope Kids at Hope began as a small research project at Arizona State University in A group of researchers and practitioners came together to better understand why some students do well and others struggle. After a seven year review ( ) three major findings were revealed. These findings were translated into a cultural framework in support of the success of all students, No Exceptions! Over the next 14 years ( ) Kids at Hope models have been established in 18 states and Canada. Nine separate independent university led evaluations have validated Kids at Hope principles and practices as powerful strategies designed to support the success of all students, No Exceptions!

Kids at Hope Kids at Hope does not add anything more to your plate, what it does is offer you a stronger plate where everything else on your plate makes a lot more sense. Kids at Hope provides the HOPE to all that we do on behalf of all children and ourselves. HOPE is a science. It can be taught and learned.

Major Research Conclusions  We don’t control most of the risk children experience, but we do control most of the hope at hope  Even the youth who is most at risk there still is a side of the young person who is at hope HOPE  Young people who overcome the greatest adversities, the greatest risks do so – not just when we reduce, mitigate or eliminate risk, but when we include HOPE in their lives  Hope is taught and learned  Programs alone cannot make a difference-Adults do

Three Types of Success Personal Organizational Cultural

Cultural Success Success is achieved as a direct result of knowing you contributed to each of life’s four major destinations: Home & Family; Education & Career; Community and Service; and Hobbies & Recreation

HOPE The ability to visit your future- home & family; education & career; community & service; hobbies & recreation return to the present and prepare yourself for the journey

Universal Truth # I Children/youth succeed when they are surrounded by adults who believe they can succeed, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Do you believe all children/youth are capable of success, No Exceptions? Strongly disbelieve Strongly believe

Children and Youth need 10’s 10’s

Conclusion: Unless you truly believe that all children and youth are capable of success, No Exceptions-Unless you are a “10” your effectiveness will be dramatically diminished.

Universal Truth # II Children/youth succeed when they have meaningful and sustainable relationships with caring adults

Conclusion: Programs alone don’t make a difference-Adult Relationships do Programs alone don’t make a difference-Adult Relationships do.

Universal Truth # III Children/youth succeed when they can articulate their future in more than one destination: 1)Home and Family 2)Education and Career 3)Community and Service 4)Hobbies and Recreation Being able to visualize a future is “mental time travel” and that creates hope.

Common Finding Terminal Thinking Terminal Thinking

Conclusion Time Travel is usually the missing link in all that we do for and on behalf of our youth to prepare them for success.
