Main Industries In the Netherlands one of the largest industries is in metal. Dutch industries has been able to redevelop commercial aircraft and automobile manufacturing has been expanded; also constructing metal buildings in the world. Most of the industry was wiped out after WW2,but they have brought it back. Agriculture is forever expanding in the Netherlands-thus the food, beverage and tobacco industries are growing all the time. The government is now also encouraging development in,aerospace, microelectronics and biotechnology.

Main Agriculture A highly mechanised agricultural sector employs 4% of the labour force but provides large surpluses for the food- processing industry and for exports. The Dutch rank third worldwide in value of agricultural exports, behind the United States and France, with exports earning $55 billion annually. A significant portion of Dutch agricultural exports are derived from fresh-cut plants, flowers, and bulbs, with the Netherlands exporting two- thirds of the world's total. The Netherlands also exports a quarter of all the world's tomatoes, and trade of one-third of the world's exports of chillies, tomatoes and cucumbers goes through the country. The Netherlands also exports one-fifteenth of the world's apples.

Brief History The Dutch United Provinces declared their independence from Spain in During the 17th century they became a leading seafaring and commercial power with settlements and colonies around the world. After a 20 year French occupation, a Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed in In 1830 Belgium seceded and formed a separate kingdom. The Netherlands remained neutral in World War I but suffered invasion and occupation by Nazi Germany in World War II. In 1948 the Netherlands became a co-signatory to the Benelux Customs Union along with Belgium and Luxembourg. This later became the Benelux Economic Union in 1958 and in 2008 the treaty between the three countries was renewed and revised under the title of the Benelux Union. The Netherlands was also a founding member of NATO in 1949 and the EEC (now the EU) in 1957 and also participated in the introduction of the Euro (EUR) in a two-phased approach in 1999 (accounting phase) and 2002 (monetary phase) to replace the Guilder (NLG).

Climate The Netherlands have a temperate maritime climate influenced by the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean, with cool summers and moderate winters. Daytime temperatures varies from 2°C-6°C in the winter and 17°C-20°C in the summer.

Famous For Windmills The Dutch have become very innovative when it comes to keeping out the water. They have built dykes, fortifications and last but not least wind and watermills to create new land. The oldest mill is a watermill that dates back to the eighth century. These techniques were used to pump dry hundreds of lakes and swamps and to prevent land from flooding. Today, windmills are characteristic of the Dutch landscape and a symbol of the Dutch struggle with water.
