ϕ 3 from B  D (*) K decays  Tree-level ϕ 3 determination from interference of B  DK and B  DK amplitudes. – Need D and D to decay to common final state.  Relative magnitude of suppressed amplitude is r B ~ 0.1.  Relative weak phase is ϕ 3, and relative strong phase is δ B. _ _ ϕ 3 ~ −arg(V ub ) Color-suppressedColor-allowed 2

r D and δ D : well known. Definitions of A and R given in BN

BN1201 (presented at LP11, this talk) Y. Horii, K. Trabelsi et al., PRL (2011) BN1201 (will be analyzed later) r D and δ D : well known. 5

Key Points of the Method  Continuum suppression – 9 variables: LR(KSFW), Δz, cosθ K D, cosθ B, |qr|, cosθ T, d DK, Q B Q K, and ΔQ. (For details, see BN1201.) – Transformed: NB  NB’.  2-D fit for ΔE and NB’. – No significant signal loss due to tight cut on NB’.  Simultaneous fit for Dπ/DK. – Better understanding of Dπ/DK feed across. 6 Signal MCqq MC

Comparison of the Results  Since GGSZ observables are related to the same parameters ( ϕ 3, r B, δ B ), we obtain predictions on R CP± and A CP± from the GGSZ observables.  Our results are consistent with GGSZ predictions. WA, GGSZ Belle, GLW WA, GLW WA taken from HFAG 2011 summer. Belle, GLW WA, GLW WA, GGSZ A CP+ A CP− −0.2 − −0.2 − R CP+ R CP−

2. Result for B  D*K ADS 13

First Evidence for B  D*K ADS Mode  Signal seen with 3.5σ significance for D*  Dγ mode.  Ratio to favored mode:  Difference between R Dπ0 and R Dγ : indication of the effect of the interference term 2r B *r D cos (δ B *+δ D ) cos ϕ 3 (opposite sign for R Dπ0 and R Dγ ). continuum Signal D*πD*π BB DK/Dπ Signal D*πD*π BB DK/Dπ continuum 14

Asymmetries for B  D*K ADS Mode  Asymmetry:  Indication of opposite sign for A Dπ0 and A Dγ : consistent with expectation. (Opposite strong phase between D*  Dπ 0 and D*  Dγ.)  Combining R Dπ0, R Dγ, A Dπ0, and A Dγ : indication of negative cos(δ B *+δ D )cos ϕ 3 and positive sin(δ B *+δ D )sin ϕ 3. Consistent with B  D (*) K Dalitz result. 15

Comparison of the Results  Since GGSZ observables are related to the same parameters ( ϕ 3, r B, δ B ), we obtain predictions on R ADS and A ADS from the GGSZ observables.  Our results are consistent with GGSZ predictions. WA, GGSZ Belle, ADS (Error of A ADS,Dπ 0 is larger, because of smaller R ADS,Dπ 0.) WA, ADS WA taken from HFAG 2011 summer. 3. Extraction of ϕ 3 17

Global fit for ϕ 3  Global ϕ 3 fit using CKMfitter. – Includes all B  D (*) K observables over the experiments.  Recent activities certainly improve the precision.  Now the precision is 10°! Significant contribution from Belle. 18 New results for B  DK ADS added. Belle (PRL), CDF (PLHC11), and LHCb (EPS11). New results by Belle for B  D*K ADS (LP11) and B  DK GLW (LP11).

Summary and Plan  B  DK GLW – Large asymmetry (~30%) for D CP+. – Opposite signs for the asymmetries for CP+ and CP−.  B  D*K ADS – First evidence (3.5σ) for D*  Dγ. – Difference between D*  Dγ and Dπ 0 : information of ϕ 3.  Extraction of ϕ 3 – Value obtained by CKMfitter is (68±10)°. – Significant contribution from recent results of Belle.  Will add D  K S η(3π), K S ω, and K S η’ in B  DK GLW analysis, analyze B  D*K GLW, and prepare paper draft. 19
