Writing Linear Equation in Standard Form

Section 5.4 – Standard Form of a Linear Equation The Standard Form of a linear equation has both variables on the one side of the equal sign and where A, B, and C are real numbers Ax+By=C First, how can we graph a linear equation that is in Slope-Intercept? Second, how do we graph for one in Standard Form?

Vertical and Horizontal Lines Vertical lines – have the equation x = c Horizontal lines – have the equation y= c y x 5 -5 y x 5 -5 x= -3 y= 4 x =4 y= -2

Write two equation equivalent What does it mean to be equivalent? 𝑥+4𝑦=3 How can we make two equation to be equivalent?

Write an equation in Standard Form of the line shown What do we know? What do we need to solve for? 2,2 4,−2

Complete an equation in standard form 2,0 Ax+4y=6

Homework Assignment Section 5.4 pg. 314 #1-3,5-9 (ODD) 11-21(ODD), 23-27(ODD) 31-35(ODD)

5.5 Write Equation of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines What does it mean to be parallel? What does it mean to be perpendicular? Lets figure it out Get into groups of groups of 4 We will be working on the Perpendicular Lines Investigation Worksheet

Parallel lines lines that are on the same plane and do not intersect. Two lines are parallel if and only if they have the same slope.

Perpendicular Lines lines that intersect to form a right angle. Two lines are perpendicular if and only if their slopes are negative reciprocals of each other. The product of two slopes is equal to -1.
