Activities in and around water The analysis of questionnaire data

Activities in and around waterAktivnosti u i oko vode During September, we have conducted a questionnaire about sport activities in and around water among students from 5th to 8th grade. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The questionnaire, consisting of questions about physical activities in and around water - prepared by Maths and PE teachers, was conducted among our students on PE class. The questions included within the questionnaire were based on the forms and types of physical activities and active leisure time related to water recreation activities. SURVEY DESCRIPTION The survey was conducted in three parts: (1) questionnaire preparation (Maths and PE teachers), (2) conducting a poll, (3) statistical analysis of survey data (Maths teacher with 8th graders). U našoj školi smo tijekom rujna proveli anketu o tjelesnim aktivnostima u i oko vode među učenicima predmetne nastave (5. do 8. razred). TIJEK ISTRAŽIVANJA Istraživanje je provedeno u tri dijela: (1) izrada upitnika (učiteljice matematike i tjelesnog), (2) anketiranje učenika, (3) statistička analiza anketnih podataka (učiteljica matematike i učenici 8. razreda).

Questionnaire Upitnik

Activities in and around water Aktivnosti u i oko vode Statistical review of the most significant questionnaire results. Statistički prikaz najznačajnijih rezultata ankete.

1. Can you swim?1. Znaš li plivati?

2. If you can, when did you learn to swim? 2. Ako znaš, kada si naučio plivati?

3. Where did you learn to swim?3. Gdje si naučio plivati?

4. Who taught you to swim?4. Tko te je naučio plivati?

5. Have you ever been to the seaside?5. Jesi li bio na moru?

7. Do you go to the seaside with your parents during the summer? 7. Ideš li s roditeljima ljeti na more?

8. If you go to the seaside, how often do you go? 8. Ako ideš na more, koliko često ideš?

9. If you go to the sea with your parents, how many days do you usually stay? 9.

10. How often do you go swimming?10. Koliko često ideš na plivanje? Tijekom cijele godine 17% učenika odlazi 1 do 3 puta tjedno na plivanje (toplice, bazeni). Throughout the year, 17% of students go swimming 1 to 3 times a week (spa, pools).

11. Are you a member of the swimming club? 11. Jesi li član plivačkog kluba?

12. Have you ever been on a boat ride?12. Jesi li se vozio čamcem?

13. Do you know how to paddle a boat?13. Znaš li veslati? Students have presumed that this question refers to having experience with paddling a boat - which doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ve mastered the paddling technique.

14. If you know how to paddle, where did you learn it? 14. Ako znaš veslati, gdje si naučio? Students have presumed that this question refers to having experience with paddling a boat - which doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ve mastered the paddling technique.

16. Have you ever tried fishing?16. Jesi li ikad bio na pecanju?

17. Are you a member of a fishing club? 17. Jesi li član ribičkog društva?

18. If you're an angler, how often do you go fishing? 18.

20. Have you ever been on rafting?20. Jesi li bio na raftingu?

21. Do you go to excursions with your parents? Where? How often? 21. Ideš li s roditeljima na izlete? Kamo? Koliko često?

Conclusion  The level of students' participation in organized water activities (like a membership in any kind of water based activity club - swimming, paddling, rafting etc.) is relatively lower due to geographical position of our village (there is no bigger water surface nearby, like river or lake - only ponds and gravel pit)  The participation in other water sports (like water polo, sailing, diving etc.) is lower as well because there's only Swimming club Čakovec nearby (although it's 15 km distant from Gornji Mihaljevec)  Also, going to the pool/river/lake includes the transport costs (public transport or with the family car) and therefore student cannot visit those places or their own (e.g. in leisure time), at least not before a certain age (high school)  One of the reason is the financial situation as well because every participation in organized activity includes the membership fee  The level of students' participation in recreational activities is higher, like fishing (74% of our students have tried fishing and 35% of them go fishing on a regular basis) and occasional swimming in St. Martin Spa (which is closer to our village so students can go there on their own, especially in the summertime)  Round 40% of our students go to excursions with parents, 25% among them go to the river – primarily Drava  Taking all of this into consideration, the majority of our parents take students to the sea (43% go every year during the summer and 39% every couple of years)
