Environmental Plantings This presentation is an overview of Environmental Plantings and the Reforestation Modelling Tool Source: Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary education (DIICCSRTE) June 2013

Environmental Plantings Methodology - Scope Planted or seeded permanent environmental plantings Mix of native tree and understorey species or a single tree species if it occurs naturally in area Potential to reach 20% crown cover & height >2 m in situ Established on land clear of forest for at least five years Stock excluded for first 3 years Removal only of firewood collection for personal use (<10% woody debris per year) Project does not involve clearing of native scrub or woody weeds

3

Estimating abatement Defining the Project Area Modelling emissions and removals in the tree and debris pools Calculating emissions from energy use Estimating abatement

Define model point

Read and print the report for the reporting period (Project Estimates worksheet)

Environmental Plantings Methodology – monitoring, record keeping & reporting Monitoring: – Adjust boundaries – disturbance events – on-ground or remote Record-keeping & reporting – Project Area- geospatial maps, date stamped CMT reports – Data supporting stratification, prior land use for CEAs – Evidence of zero carbon stock change baseline – Forest management- – Species mix native to area – Evidence trees will reach >2m height and >20% canopy cover in situ – timing of management events & timing and extent of disturbances – Any information required by RMT, and date stamped RMT output files – Fuel use – Abatement estimate

Reforestation Modelling Tool- future releases Next: will link to the same SQL database as FUllCAM and climate data updated there (additional 2 years up to and including 2011). will access the FullCAM API library. public release by July 2013.
