What Meerkats Look Like

Meerkats are small, furry mammals. They are around the same size as a small cat.

Meerkats have stripes on their fur. The stripes on each meerkat look a little bit different. Type a caption for this photo.

Meerkats’ eyes can see very far away. Meerkats sit or stand on their back legs to see even farther. They use their long tails to make sure they don’t fall over. Type here

How Meerkats Live in the Desert

If meerkats can’t find water, they don’t need to drink any. They can get the moisture they need from plants and roots. 8

The desert can be very cold or very hot. Meerkats can use the skin on their bellies to get warm or stay cool. They sit in the sun or lie on their bellies on a cool rock. Type a caption for this photo.

Meerkats are very good at digging in the sand and dirt. They have strong claws. They can even close their ears so dirt doesn’t get inside! 10 Type here

Meerkats live together in big families. They spend a lot of time grooming each other, just like monkeys.

Meerkat babies are raised by the whole group. A meerkat babysitter might teach the baby how to hunt. Type a caption for this photo.
