Group Questions 1.Read Ephesians 4:26. What does sinful anger look like? What does anger that is not sinful look like? 2.What examples can you give of biblical characters getting angry? How did the anger affect them? Their relationships with others? Their relationship with God? 3.What is the dumbest thing you’ve gotten angry over? At what point did you realize it was dumb? How did you resolve your anger?

Anger a strong feeling of displeasure, and usually of antagonism...often accompanied by sinful emotions, words, and actions hurtful to those who are the objects of our anger. It is usually directed at a person.

Robert Jones Anger is a universal problem, prevalent in every culture, experienced by every generation. No one is isolated from its presence or immune from its poison. It permeates each person and spoils our most intimate relationships. Anger is a give part of our fallen human fabric…sadly this is true even in our Christian homes and churches

Ordinary Anger Anger that happens as a result of our pride, selfishness, and desire to control.

David Powlison Anger is Natural in 2 different ways: It is natural because we were Created in God’s Image (Righteous Anger) It is natural because we All Fell into Sin (Unrighteous Anger)

John 2:13-16 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade."

3 Characteristics of Righteous Anger 1.Arises from an Accurate Perception of True Evil 2.Focuses on God & His Will, not Me & My Will 3.Always Self-Controlled

1 Peter 2:23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

James 4:1-2 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask

1 Peter 2:18-20 Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.

3 Typical Causes Of Anger 1.Pride 2.Selfishness 3.Desire to Control

1 Peter 2:23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

Principle… We are to choose to RESPOND biblically rather than REACT emotionally…

Responding Biblically to Anger… 1.Recognize & Acknowledge our anger & the sinfulness of it 2.Ask Ourselves WHY we become angry 3.Change our Attitude toward the person whose words or actions triggered 4.Hand over to God the occasion of our anger

Questions to Ask… 1.How would JESUS Respond in my situation? 2.How can I GLORIFY God in my response? 3.Will I accept mistreatment as being under the sovereign CONTROL of God?

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you

Colossians 1:13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive
