The harbour of London in the 18th century

The harbour of London at 18th century This is the harbor of London in the 18 century. We don’t know the artist. It’s a drawing and not a painting. We can see at the bottom a man in a boat. The boat is 5 times bigger than the man inside. On the back we can see some old buildings and also old caravels. The people are probably going to fish or take a walk by the water. Everything looks very old.

George I His reign began in the 1th August 1714 and finished the 11th June He was the king of Great Britain and Ireland. He wasn’t born as a king, just as a noble, owner of some territories inherited of his father and mother who was absent for almost a year (1664–5) during a long convalescent holiday in Italy. During George's reign, the powers of the monarchy diminished and Britain began a transition to the modern system of cabinet government.

George II His reign began in June 1727 and finished the 25th October was King of Great Britain and Ireland, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Hanover) and Archtreasurer and Prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire. George was the last British monarch born outside Great Britain: he was born and brought up in Northern Germany. He followed the system that his predecessor created.

George III His reign began in 25th October 1760 and finished the 29th January He was King of Great Britain and King of Ireland from 25 October 1760 until the union of these two countries on 1 January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death. He was concurrently Duke and prince-elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg ("Hanover") in the Holy Roman Empire until his promotion to King of Hanover

Map of London This is a map of London and Westminster in the 18th century. We can see the river Thames crossing the city of London. We can see that it hasn’t changed too much but there have been some changes.

Port of London Here, we can see the Port of London in 18th century. We can see old homes and tenders, a big sailing boat and another boat with boxes. We don’t know the artist but we can note this painting is very old.

Monument Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower, officially named Elizabeth Tower, as well. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009, during which celebratory events took place. The tower was completed in 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols of London, England and Great Britain, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city.
