Do Unsupervised LMC Clerks Make a Difference in Academic Achievement?

Staff Activities That DO Make a Difference LMC staff planning & teaching cooperatively with teachers LMC staff providing in-service training to teachers LMC staff meeting with principal, attending faculty meetings, & serving on standards & curriculum committees LMC staff managing computer network that provides remote access to LM resources

Why Can’t an Unsupervised Clerk Cover These Activities? Because NONE of these activities is properly in the job description of a clerk

So What Difference Does It Make? Consider the Evidence from Alaska LMC staffing Percent Students scoring below average levelElementarySecondary With full-time LMC specialist 17%8% With unsupervised LMC clerk - No LMC specialist 41%49%

Conclusion Unsupervised LMC clerks do not engage in activities that make a difference. As a result, students score poorly. Thus, hiring only a clerk, produces a sense of false economy.
