2 INTRODUCTION I am Buyiswa Sylvia Bushwana, Chairperson Correctional Supervision and Parole Board of Brandvlei Management Area.I am Buyiswa Sylvia Bushwana, Chairperson Correctional Supervision and Parole Board of Brandvlei Management Area. Brandvlei Management Area consist of 3 Correctional Centres, Maximum, Medium, Youth Centre.Brandvlei Management Area consist of 3 Correctional Centres, Maximum, Medium, Youth Centre. My work history is mainly in the Department of Education: Senior Teacher, lecturer and principal at various teaching institutions, including Colleges of Education and NGO’s.My work history is mainly in the Department of Education: Senior Teacher, lecturer and principal at various teaching institutions, including Colleges of Education and NGO’s. 3 BACKGROUND The new Correctional Supervision and Parole Board substituted the previous Parole Board on 2004/10/01.The new Correctional Supervision and Parole Board substituted the previous Parole Board on 2004/10/01. 5 Involvement of Community Members  Chairperson – Mrs. BS Bushwana  BEC member of ward 17 in Zwelethemba, Worcester: Sports, Arts & Culture Portfolio.  Coordinator of Fundraising Projects in our church.  Offering assistance and classes to various schools in Breedevalley.  Instrumental in establishing community committees to assist Parolees in various projects e.g.. Gardening and counselling.  Involved in CPF and Justice clusters.  Member of Community Safety Forum: Breedevalley Municipality.

20 SOCIETAL RESPONSIBILITY  The CSPB members are aware of their societal responsibility hence they are actively involved in marketing and community projects.  The active involvement of Community members assist in addressing problem area e.g.. Negative address, communities that do not want to accept offenders on parole etc.  Meetings are held with different communication so as to know more of the CSPB’s roles and functions and invitations are extended for them to visit our Management Area to know more  We are initiating committees in community to address the plight of parolees and ex-offenders e.g.. Ministers Forum for Parolees support.

21 CONCLUSION In a nutshell at Brandvlei we do receive a lot of support from the Area Commissioner and Co- ordinator Mr Davids thus we are able to overcome some of our challenges. Also, I believe we take it upon ourselves to motivate, nurture and support the offenders/parolees as far as we can to enhance the rehabilitation process. Due to our marketing strategies the communities are now more aware and positive about the DCS
