TEN things you should know about today’s Student Veterans

 In 1947, 50% of U.S. college students were veterans  Today – Post-9/11 GI Bill make up only 3%  Campuses across the country are on the cusp of serving more than 2 million military veterans as they return from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars  Most are attending community and technical colleges Student veterans numbers increasing

 Less than 1% of Americans serve in the Military  =relmfu =relmfu  College is a conduit to civilian life  The question they resent most is: “Did you kill anyone?”  Don’t say “I can relate” unless you mean it.  Women make up 8% of veterans (Wisconsin 7.2%) Struggles and Stereotypes

 Welcome them home  Express your appreciation of their service ??  Offer to help with their transition to (or back to) campus  Support with patience and listening  Understand that the transition home is a process and can take time  Acclimate, assist and advocate  Student Veterans Associations or Clubs  MPTC recognized as Military Friendly School for the 4th consecutive year We all have a stake in their success
