Chanel August 19th, 1883 – January 10th, 1971. She adopted the nickname Coco during a brief career as a cafe and concert singer. She set up a millinery shop in Paris in 1910 and her simple hats soon became popular. By the 1920s, her fashion house had expanded considerably. Jean Patou Jean Patou (1880-1936) was born in Normandy in northwestern France. Patou opened a dressmaking and fur establishment that failed but he opened up a tailoring business in Paris the following year. He designed sportswear along with beaded and lace embellished garments. He put his "JP" monogram on his garments.
