For this project, I created four different tessellations. The first exemplified the transformation known as translation also called the slide transformation in which an object is moved a long a straight line and is not turned. The shapes involved in the translation were Isosceles triangles nibbled from rectangles, and squares, which together made up little houses and the tessellation pattern was vertically symmetrical. The second tessellation shows the transformation known as reflection, also referred to as a flip transformation in which, on a plane, the replacement of each point on one side of a line by the point symmetrically is placed on the other side of the line. The shapes involved in my reflection tessellation were trapezoids and diamonds and the tessellation was both vertically and horizontally symmetrical. The third tessellation exemplified the transformation known as Rotation also known as the turn transformation. Rotation is defined as a transformation on a plane determined by holding one point fixed and rotating the plane about this point known as the center of rotation, by a certain number of degrees in a certain direction. The shapes involved in this tessellation were diamonds and the tessellation had both vertical and horizontal symmetry. The final tessellation is a multiple figure tessellation combing all three of the previous transformations including a translation (the houses), a reflection (the trapezoids), and a rotation (the diamonds) The entire tessellation is vertically symmetrical. The entire tessellation is vertically symmetrical. Main Menu Main Menu
