The Kingdom of God Chapter 5 Theology II Mr. Perrotti

Kingdom of God Kingdom of God, also called Kingdom Of Heaven, or the fulfillment on Earth of God’s will. It is generally considered to be the central theme of Jesus’ teaching. The idea of God as king was fundamental to Judaism, and Jewish ideas on the subject undoubtedly underlie, the New Testament usage.

Different Translations The Greek word for kingdom (basileia) Aramaic term malkut; Malkut refers primarily not to a geographical area or realm nor to the people inhabiting the realm but, rather, to the activity of the king himself, his exercise of sovereign power. “My Kingdom is not of this world”- Jesus to the Sanhedrin

“For Thine is the Kingdom” Jesus would “inherit the Kingdom,” an expression which emphasizes that the Kingdom was thought of as a divine gift, not a human achievement. According to the first three Gospels, most of Jesus’ miraculous actions are to be understood as prophetic symbols of the coming of the Kingdom

“The Power” The presence and coming of the Kingdom of God was the central message of Jesus. Jesus’ teaching was designed to show men how they might enter the Kingdom of God His mighty works were intended to prove that the Kingdom of God had come upon them His parables illustrated to His disciples the truth about the Kingdom of God.

“The Glory” And when He taught His followers to pray, at the heart of their petition were the words, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven“. The kingdom of God is the rule of an eternal sovereign God over all creatures and things The kingdom of God is also the designation for the domain of salvation entered into at the new birth.

God’s People The Church The term by which the New Testament writers denote the society founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) – Religious instruction given to us by The Catholic Church to help us lead a life of Christ.

God’s Place Our church, place of worship, place of prayer “Were two or three are gathered in my name, I am there” Vatican – Cathedral – our local Parish How we worship is as important to were we worship. Jesus taught us to pray – Our Father Angel Gabriel gave us the “Hail Mary”

God’s Place Rosary – One of the most powerful forms of formal prayer. “Wedding of Cana, Jesus will never say no to his mother” Magnificent – Prayer which came from Mary visitation to Elizabeth. Glory Be to the Father – Second “doxology” (a Hymn of Prayer or praise to God) Included in the Rosary with “Our Father” in In 529 AD at the Second Synod of Vasio in Gaul A “Synod” is a special gathering of the Church Council to discuss various issues.

“Hail Mary” A prayer for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ. The Hail Mary is based on these passages from the Bible: Luke 1:28-35, The Mysteries of Faith! – The Mysteries are the Sorrowful Mysterie – The Luminous Mysteries – The Glorious Mysteries – The Joyful Mysteries

The Mysteries of Faith The Five Joyous Mysteries The Annunciation The Visitation The Nativity The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple

The Mysteries of Faith Sorrowful Mysteries The Agony in the Garden The Scourging at the Pillar The Crowning of Thorns The Carrying of the Cross The Crucifixion

The Mysteries of Faith The five Glorious Mysteries include: The Resurrection The Ascension The Descent of the Holy Spirit The Assumption of Mary The Coronation of Mary

The Mysteries of Faith These mysteries are comparatively recent, having been introduced as an option by Pope John Paul II in Centered on the ministry of Jesus, and the sacraments that he instituted, they are often said on Thursdays. The Luminous Mysteries The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan The Wedding at Cana Jesus' Proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven The Transfiguration The Institution of the Eucharist

God’s Rule We are the Kingdom of God on earth and with God! Through Jesus’ Paschal Mystery He allowed us the opportunity to share “The Kingdom” with Him and his Father. Scripture gives us the direction we need to “Enter the Kingdom” Jesus’ second coming “Will be in Glory as he delivers us all who follow Him to His Kingdom!
