Math 310 Section 10 Quadrilaterals Review
Trapezoid Definition: A quadrilateral with a pair of parallel sides. Special Notes! All the properties of a quadrilateral hold. The length of the mid-segment is the average of the lengths of the parallel sides. The mid-segment is parallel to the bases.
Kite Definition: A quadrilateral with two non-overlapping pairs of congruent adjacent sides. Special Notes! All the properties of a quadrilateral hold. Diagonals are perpendicular. The diagonal between non-vertex angles is bisected by the diagonal between vertex angles. Angles between congruent sides are called vertex angles. Angle between non-congruent sides are called non-vertex angles. Non-vertex angles are congruent. The diagonal between vertex angles bisects the vertex angles. VERTEX ANGLES NON-VERTEX ANGLES
Parallelogram Definition: A quadrilateral with opposites sides parallel. Special Notes! All the properties of a trapezoid hold. Opposite sides are parallel. Adjacent angles are supplementary. Opposite sides are congruent. Opposite angles are congruent. Diagonals bisect each other. If one angle is a right angle, then all angles are right angles.
Rhombus Definition: A quadrilateral with four congruent sides. Special Notes! All the properties of a parallelogram and a kite hold. All sides are congruent. Diagonals are perpendicular bisectors.
Rectangle Definition: A parallelogram with one right angle. Special Notes! All the properties of a parallelogram hold. It has an interior right angle. All the angles are right- angles.
Square Definition: A rhombus that is a rectangle. Special Notes! All the properties of a parallelogram hold. It a regular quadrilateral. A square is also a trapezoid. A square is also a parallelogram. A square is also a rhombus. A square is also a rectangle. A square is also a kite.
