 Rapture from Bioshock

 How does the work relate to the idea of an utopian existence, place or society?  Answer: It relates to an idea of an utopian existence by it is based off of the underwater city Atlantis. It show that this person was tired of his normal life and he wanted to find a perfect place to live.  2. How might the time period in which the work was created affect the utopian vision it portrays?  Answer: The idea of this city was not like it wont take long to make it. It took 20 years to make it and after all that year it still had problems.

 3. What is the tone or mood of the work? How do the style and colors affect you?  Answer: I think that the tone for this was a dark and grim city. It affected me by that you had this beautiful city but if you look through it it’s not this place that you are looking for a stay at.  4. What do you think was the artist’s purpose in making this piece?  I think that the purpose of this artwork was to show that on the outside it may look perfect but looks can be deceiving. In the inside of this city people fight each other and act like animals to find their way out. Even if you found a way out the owner will make sure you never leave this place.

 5. Why might an artist want to portray an idealized setting? Why might an artist might want to portray a chaotic or grotesque setting?  I think the reason why the artist portrayed had portray a chaotic setting because I think I want to show you that the man search for an utopia might make him insane and will do nothing to make sure it still be there even to taking lives to make sure.

 1. How does the work relate to the idea of an utopian existence, place or society?  The artwork relates to the idea of an utopian existence by that people had always had been searching for utopia for a very long time and some people might had found like this artwork.  2. How might the time period in which the work was created affect the utopian vision it portrays?

 During in that time period that it was created had affect the utopian vision it portrays by with the colors the person had to made it into this bright and happy place where it might have but not this colorful. With the right colors you could make it into a dark or bright  3. What is the tone or mood of the work? How do the style and colors affect you?  The tone for this artwork a harmonious place that look like is a peaceful place and the style for it affect me by making it look like a place that had no war.

 4. What do you think was the artist’s purpose in making this piece?  I think that the purpose of making this was that it was based off of a 1933 novel called The Lost Horizon. In the book it describes it as a harmonious place and a happy place far away with the other world. I think the artist wanted to make it look like place that you just cannot drive there you have to go really far away to this place.

 5. Why might an artist want to portray an idealized setting? Why might an artist might want to portray a chaotic or grotesque setting?  Answer: I think that this artist had wanted to portrayed this as a idealized setting because they might want to show this beautiful side that no one can just easily go to at all. It probably takes time to get their and they want to show that you do not need modern technology to live in paradise where in this one you don’t see modern technology.
