Mission Statement The goal of the conference is to: – Promote Black student involvement and leadership at WSU – Empower high school students through multicultural leadership and awareness – Develop a network for students achieving higher education

What is VIBES? Targets African/African American students – Everyone is still welcome! Leadership conference Intended to foster and address the need for higher education in the black community

History of VIBES The conference was started in March of 1993 by the men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Originally called the BOLD Conference! In the late 90’s, Black Student Union and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. merged, creating what is now known as the VIBES Conference

Now for some important questions about the conference…

How do I register for VIBES? Everything is online! ⁻No more mail-in applications Go online to and click “Registration Information” → “Register Now” Your Registration Packet is not complete until we receive: Online Registration Form Completed Consent Form Packet

How much is the conference? The conference is $50.00 if you register by December 25,2014 – Any applications received after December 25 th will be charged an increased registration fee of $60.00 – Will apply first and then pay money after you are accepted! – Registration closes JANUARY 25TH This cost covers everything for the entire weekend! – Hotel – Food – T-shirt – All the events and amazing experiences you’ll have...

Cancellation & Refund If you have registered and cannot go, please contact Lipo Sinapati at or Full refund of registration will be granted if you cancel by JANUARY 31, If you cancel after this date you will not get a refund! No shows will NOT be refunded!!!

How am I going to get there? We have 5-6 different pick up sites: 1. Seattle – Bahama Southcenter Mall 2. Tacoma – Krispy Tacoma Mall 3. Spokane – 3 Locations Rogers Shadle Park Lewis and Clark 4. Vancouver?

Where do we stay? Will be in a Pullman hotel (Hilltop Inn) Can request a roommate but is not guaranteed! There will be approximately 4 students to a room & 2 to a bed. If you would like, you may bring additional bedding or a sleeping bag! *Important Note: You can request a room change but not based on race, sexuality, religion, etc.

What to bring: Personal Hygiene Products (Shampoo, soap, etc.), Comfortable (Warm) Clothing and Shoes, Towel, Water Bottle, Alarm Clock, Snacks for the Bus Ride & during the weekend, Attire for the Banquet (semi- formal), Small Backpack, Sleeping Bag if desired (students will share a queen bed with one other participant)

What are we going to do? Several planned activities include: ⁻ Opening and Closing Ceremonies ⁻ Campus Tours ⁻ Informational Workshops ⁻ College Fair ⁻ Dinner Banquet ⁻ Talent Show/ Cultural Showcase ⁻ Dance/ Social

On-Site Review High school seniors who have submitted their full application including SAT scores have the opportunity for on-site review. There will be an option for some students to meet one-on-one with an admissions counselor. Not all students will be admitted on site, as some applications take longer to process.

SENIORS: Please note that the priority deadline for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is FEBUARY 15, FAFSA is how you apply for grants, loans, and work-study funds to help finance your college education Visit the website FAFSA.ed.gov for more information

New Heights, New Hopes Scholarship Brand new scholarship for those who are admitted to WSU! $1,000 scholarships (2) given away to applying seniors ⁻ 2 alternates will be chosen In order to receive the scholarship, you must enroll at WSU that upcoming fall. ⁻ If the winner does not enroll then the scholarship will go to an alternate!
