 Born November 7, Mondovi in Algiers  Father -killed in 1914 during WWI  Mother - deaf and poor  Deprived childhood at home  Kept himself busy at school with sports, studying, and getting a part time job  Studied philosophy at the University of Algiers  Contracted TB in 1930

 Camus had to stop his studies because of financial issues  Jobs as a police clerk, a salesman, tutor, and a meteorologist  Married and divorced Simone Hié, the daughter of a wealthy opthalmologist  he founded the Workers’ Theater  he finally completed his degree, graduating from the University of Algiers  joined and then left the Communist party
