The Tale of Two Record Sets The World Trials Library AACR2 |/ PNR

We started cataloging World Trials in 2007, so we chose to create the original MARC record set according to the rules of AACR2 Chap. 9, Electronic Resources. Reason for cataloging according to AACR2 Chap.9

The Provider-Neutral Alternative Record Set is cataloged according to the PROVIDER-NEUTRAL RECORD (PNR) Guidelines approved by the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC), May So, why Provider-Neutral?

The AALL Task Force for Vendor-Supplied Bibliographic Records has expressed great enthusiasm at the adoption of these new Guidelines. While at the Library of Congress, they’re still thinking it over… In an dated 6/22/09, Mr. David Reser of the LC Policy and Standards Division wrote: ”Where we would, in theory, apply LCRI 1.11A is when we acquire a digital reproduction of an analog manifestation and we do not hold the analog manifestation in our collections (i.e., we couldn't use the 'single record' approach because we don't have a record for the original). Of course, the PCC Provider Neutral Monograph policies could be applied in those situations instead of LCRI 1.11A-- we're still evaluating the impact of that.” Support for the decision

The following slides explain the difference between a record cataloged according to the AACR2 Chap. 9 and using Provider- Neutral Guidelines So, what is the difference?
