What does Jesus require of us?

The Son of Man has no place to lay his head. Radical Commitment The Son of Man has no place to lay his head.

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Luke 9:24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.

Luke 9:25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose his very self?

Luke 9:26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”

GO BIG or GO HOME!

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Three Actions Deny Yourself Take Up Your Cross Follow Jesus

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Three Actions Deny Yourself Take Up Your Cross Follow Jesus

John 6:53 “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”

Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.”

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Two Ways to Follow Jesus Follow His Teaching Follow His Example

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Philippians 2:5-6 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

Philippians 2:7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Philippians 2:8 and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Three Actions Deny Yourself Take Up Your Cross Follow Jesus

Luke 9:24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.

John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Luke 9:25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?

Luke 9:26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”

Two Questions: Do We Believe Jesus? Are We Going to Obey Jesus?

Luke 14:33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
