How to Get High Mark 10:35-45

Mark 10:35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to [Jesus] and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you."

Mark 10:36-37 And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory."

Background on James and John: - They are brothers. - They are part of Jesus' inner circle of three disciples, (the other is Peter). - Jesus nicknames them “The Sons Of Thunder” in Mark 3:17. - James is the first apostle to be killed for his faith.

Snapshot of James & John: Luke 9:54-56 [The Samaritans did not receive Jesus' Message, and] when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them.

Mark 10:38 Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"

Mark 10:39 And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized...

Mark 10:40...but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared."

Mark 10:41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John.

Mark 10:42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them...

"You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Mark 10:42 (cont'd)

“What is good? All that heightens the feeling of power in man, the will to power, power itself. What is bad? All that is born of weakness. What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome.” - Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)

“If any civilization is to survive, it is the morality of altruism (sacrificing for others) that men have to reject.” -Ayn Rand (1905-1982)

Mark 10:43-44 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve...

Mark 10:45 (cont'd)...and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Philippians 2:5-7 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Philippians 2:8-9 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,

Philippians 2:10-11 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Conclusion : IF YOU WANNA GET HIGH YOU GOTTA GET LOW

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 ESV)
