James 5:1-3 Mo Money Mo Problems

James 1: But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away. James 2:5-7 5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?

James 5:1-3 1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!

Discussion Questions 1) Guy King once said “the harm comes not when we possess riches, but when riches possess us.” What does he mean? How can we rightly possess riches? 2) Often people want a lot of assets when they die But how our “assets” are sometimes really our “liabilities”? 3) What are ways we pursue idols through money? What are others ways we may we pursue our idols? 4) Would you be afraid to reveal your credit card statements and all the things you’ve spent money on, to your fellow church members?
