Hezekiah Prays for Guidance and Follows Isaiah’s Counsel What did Hezekiah do to stop the people from worshiping idols? ”He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.” – 2 Kings 18:4

After the Assyrian army conquered many of the cities of Judah, where did Hezekiah turn for help? Although We May Not See Such Dramatic Results When We Pray, Our Prayers Will Be Heard And Answered. Share An Appropriate Experience When You Have Prayed For Help And Received An Answer. “I prayed and fasted for help with finding names of my family that I may take to the temple. Shortly after I received a phone call from my distant aunt telling me she was in town if I would like to see her. I went to visit her bringing my laptop and she helped me submit many names of my family into the temple.” – Sister Ferranti

When Hezekiah learned he was going to die, what did he ask the Lord to remember? (Isaiah 38:3) How did the Lord answer his prayer? 3 ”And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.” – Isaiah 38:3 When we ask Heavenly Father to heal us or a loved one, our prayer may be answered in several ways. We must be willing to accept Heavenly Father’s will.

Isaiah Prophesied of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Millennium Whom did Isaiah say would see the Savior at his Second Coming? 5 ”And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.” – Isaiah 40:5 18 ”For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.” – Isaiah 66:18

How will the Lord know the wicked from the righteous? 18 ”For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.” – Isaiah 66:18 Heavenly Father and Jesus know the desires of our hearts. If we are trying to live righteously, we will be watched over and blessed during this time. What did the Lord say will happen to the Saints when the wicked are burned? 75 ”That when the trump shall sound for the dead, we shall be caught up in the cloud to meet thee, that we may ever be with the Lord;” 76 “That our garments may be pure, that we may be clothed upon with robes of righteousness, with palms in our hands, and crowns of glory upon our heads, and reap eternal joy for all our sufferings.” – D&C 109:75-76

What does Isaiah say about war between the nations of the earth? Isaiah 2:4 4 ”And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” Notation: In the millenium, the tools once used for war, will be used as farming tools. For there will be peace among all.

How will the wild animals behave? 6 “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” 7 “And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.” 8 “And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.” 9 “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” – Isaiah 11:6-9

Why do you think it will be a blessing to live in a world where everyone has been taught the gospel? Isaiah 11:9; 54:13–14 What can we do to be worthy to live on the earth at this time? 9 “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” – Isaiah 11:9 13 ”And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” 14 “In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.” – Isaiah 54:13-14

Only Heavenly Father knows when the Second Coming will occur and when the Millennium will begin. Nevertheless, we should be preparing for that time. The Millennium is a time to look forward to. Although there will be difficult times before the Second Coming, we will be blessed and helped through these times if we live righteously.

Discuss several events of the last days. Explain that signs tell us of Jesus’ Second Coming, such as wickedness, war, turmoil, the Restoration of the gospel, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, the gospel preached to all the world, the sealing power restored, the Lamanites becoming a mighty people, and the building of the New Jerusalem. Conclude the discussion by referring to Isaiah 54:10, 13–14, 17. Emphasize that those who are righteous will be blessed during these difficult times.

Lesson 36 ISAIAH The prophet Isaiah lived over 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Many of Isaiah’s teachings and prophecies have been quoted by other prophets in the Book of Mormon and the New Testament and by the Savior himself. Isaiah prophesied of many events that have already happened and many that will yet come to pass. When Jesus visited the Nephites after his Resurrection, he counseled them to study the words of Isaiah. 1 ”And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah.” – 3 Nephi 23:1
