You will begin by choosing what you will analyze. Then, you will read examples of analysis ideas before writing your own paper. The paper must be 2000 words in length and include 3-5 sources in an annotated bibliography. Pick a topic that interests you.

I have learned that this is indeed true. If you have a passion for something, you have a desire to share it with others and you will do whatever it takes to make your audience see what makes your topic so special. Therefore, when the passion in your heart is transcribed on paper, you produce something intriguing, heartwarming, and unique. And through this process you create “good writing”. For the assignment, I was asked to analyze a literary work, such as a poem or a book, or a visual work, such as an advertisement. Since I am an Education major, I have an unquestionable passion for working with children and I love anything that has to do with youngsters. Therefore, I chose to write my analysis on the children’s book No, David! by David Shannon. Through extensive research, drafting, editing, and most importantly, a love for my writing subject, I was able to produce pages of “good writing”.

Modeled after a book that Shannon created when he was five-years-old in which he “drew pictures of himself doing all the things he wasn’t supposed to be doing along with the words ‘no’ and ‘David’” No, David! has a unique touch that makes it appealing to children (“David Shannon: Biography”). Throughout the book, Shannon uses a bright pallet to create illustrations that resemble those similar to a kindergartener’s masterpiece. The scenes are loosely sketched and incorporate elements that can be linked to childhood, such as games and toys, television shows, and favorite snacks. Even the sketch of David has qualities that only a child would create, including pointy teeth and stringy hair. The use of illustrations that resemble children’s artwork is a technique that Shannon uses to engage his audience and make the book more likeable to children.”

Wordy writing that was not clear and concise. Avoiding advice from peers and other helpers. A paper that is organized and fluent. Strong word choice and proper use of grammar. Better understanding of my writing style. Growth in my passion for teaching and for children.
