Scout Leadership Positions Process of elections Troop goals: Scout lead troop (Planning, leading, build character, leadership training) Scout Responsibility:  time and effort  near perfect attendance at meeting, monthly events, leadership training  come early - stay late  prep work at home - menu, duty roster, calling to inform patrol members and remind of duties.  wear his uniform

Scout Leadership Positions (cont.) Parental responsibility:  support and guidance  transportation, encouragement, "refocusing of purpose"  help with leadership management - phone calls, keeping records, complete uniform and remaining him of what is expected of him

Scout Leadership Positions (cont.) Parental “Do’s and Don'ts”  Don't use Scouts as a punishment. Do ensure that as a leader he sees his job is to attend  Don't do your son's assignment. Do ensure that he calls, he writes, and he does the work  Don't ignore him. Do learn his assignments and make sure he is keeping up  Don't expect too much. Do see that he is learning life skills and it will take time and maybe a few mistakes  Don't expect too little. Scouting leadership positions are designed to be age appropriate; however, Scouts mature at different times. Most scouts have to "grow" into their leadership responsibility. Do help your scout find their leadership strengths and develop the areas that do not come naturally to them. Note: Troop 1257 will be conducting a Junior Leader training course in the near future.

Summer Camp Great percentage of scouts coming to camp Final payment is due Merit Badge requests are in for Ottari Some Merit Badges have prerequisites (info to follow). Scouts are encouraged to complete prerequisites before camp. 1st year scouts focus on rank advancement through First Class 2nd year and older scouts focus on merit badges. Primary focus is to have fun!

Volunteer Status As of May 2003: 33 Active Families in Troop Families have signed up to serve on committee and /or troop positions 5 Families are signed up exclusively for camping 75 % of our families are signed-up to help! Our Troop Goal is 100% and we have some major holes to fill!
