Something- Anything-Nothing INDEFINITE PRONOUNS

SOMEBODY-SOMEONE SOMEBODY Somebody (or someone) has broken the window Somebody/someone= a person but we don't know who.

SOMETHING SOMETHING= He's studying something (English,Maths...) SOMETHING=a thing but we don't know what

SOMEWHERE SOMEWHERE= “Let's go somewhere this weekend” Somewhere=in a place but we don't know where.

SOME... Use: Somebody/Someone, Somewhere, something+ a verb when you don't say who, what or where. Examples: “Somebody has broken the window” “He's studying something” “let's go somewhere”

ANY... USE: Anybody/Anyone,Anything, Anywhere in ? Or with a - verb. Examples: “I didn't know anyone at that party” “where's Sam? Has anybody seen him? “I didn't buy anything in the shopping centre”

ANY... ANY... USE:Anybody/Anyone,Anyth ing, Anywhere in + sentences meaning:cualquiera, cualquier cosa, en cualquier lugar Examples: “I never have problems sleeping on buses or planes. I can sleep anywhere.” “Nunca tengo problemas para dormirme en el autobus o el avión. Puedo dormir en cualquier lugar/cualquier sitio.”

NO... USE: Nobody/No one, nothing, nowhere in short answers or with a + verb Examples: “Who did you meet? Nobody “Nobody went to his party” “What's in the bag? Nothing “There's nothing in the bag” “where did you go? Nowhere “She doesn't like her town cause there's nowhere to go”

Typical mistakes 1. Using nobody/nothing/nowhere with a negative verb. You can't use a double negative in English. Eg: I didn't see nobody (WRONG). I didn't see anybody (RIGHT) 2.Using anybody/anything/anywhere in one word answers to convey a negative meaning. Eg: who did you see?Anybody (WRONG) Who did you see? Nobody (RIGHT)

NEVER If “NEVER” is in the sentence, the sentence is negative and we use anything/ anybody/anywhere to convey the meaning of “nada, nadie, en ningún lugar) I never say anything in English. In this class. I'm too shy.(Nunca digo nada en inglés en esta clase. Soy demasiado tímido) I never read anything in English apart from my coursebook (Nunca leo nada en inglés aparte de mi libro de texto)
