Vision: By 2020, the University of Arizona, through Tech Launch Arizona, will become a recognized national resource for its role in integrating UA created knowledge into tangible economic and social benefit. Mission: The primary mission of TLA is to ensure greater cohesion among the UA research enterprise and the technology business community to significantly enhance the impact of UA research and technological innovation, and assets of the technology parks. 2

3 The Propositions and Practices in a Nutshell Technology Commercialization Faculty do research Intellectual property created UA owns the IP and secures it through patents University licenses the IP Economic benefit derived from royalty Industry research Applied research supported by a business Company uses knowledge and technology Tech Parks Parks benefit UA through tenants and activities located at the parks

Guidance through meaningful metrics. Increase exposure and understanding about IP. Create an early stage venture investment fund. Enhancing Technology Commercialization 8

Promoting Industry Sponsored Research and Corporate Collaboration (8 Strategies) Create sustainable high impact, high value corporate relationships. Maximize industry sponsored research opportunities. Increase joint pursuits for Federal awards. Enhance Technology Parks’ Integration with the Mission of the University (6 Strategies) Create greater synergy between Tech Parks and University. New tenants will have meaningful relationships with the University. 9

Develop TLA brand; communicate broadly and genuinely creating brand recognition. Intensify the base of support among UA leaders and stakeholders. Work with UA leaders to address and resolve issues. Continue to build the TLA team. Direct report to the President. Overall TLA Enterprise (22 Strategies) 10

Initiating the TLA Commercialization Clinic this fall. Industry sponsored research strategic plan this fall. Finalizing City of Tucson and TLA Commercialization Network Alliance. Implementing tech transfer recognition in P&T. Working with faculty teams on three new industry research/innovation centers. Completing new IP terms, called Arizona Choice, for industry sponsored research contracts. Major personnel transitions have occurred; presently completing additions to the TLA team. Building IP and license pipelines. Current Activities 11
