STOP AND THINK  Who were the Iroquois?  When did they arrive in New York?  Where did they live?  What did they do for food and shelter?  What was their government like?  How did they get along with non-Iroquois people?

CHAPTER ONE PAGES 8-9  Look at the map on page 9.  What is the title?  Look at the Legend in the box in the corner.  Notice what each color and symbol stand for.  What is this map trying to show us?  How can we use this map to understand more about the Iroquois people?
