Purpose Will different amounts of sunlight affect the way the plant grows?

Hypothesis We think the plant on the back counter will grow the most. We think the plant on the back counter will grow the most. The plant that has full sun will grow pretty well, and the plant under the box will grow the least.

Materials  3 styrofoam cups  3 bean plants  Water  Recording sheet  Pencil  Pen  Folder  Nail  Potting soil  Sunny window  Back counter  Box  Measuring cup

Procedure 1) G ather all our materials. 2) F ill each cup half full with potting soil. 3) P lace a bean plant’s roots into each cup and continue to add soil until cup is almost full. 4) P ack soil lightly with fingers. 5) P oke a nail through the bottom sides of each cup four times to allow drainage.

6) Label each cup with a pen to identify group members. 7) Label each cup with a pen. Write “full sun” on one cup, “back counter” on another, and “under box” on a third cup. 8) Measure the starting height of each plant and record on data sheet. 9) Water each plant every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for four weeks. 10) Measure each plant every Monday for four weeks and record on data sheet. 11) Take final measurements on the fourth week.

Variable and Controls Different amounts of sunlight.  Same Soil  Same amount of water  Same type of liquid  Same amount of soil  Same kind of plant

Results The plant on the back counter grew the most, and it grew 13 1\2 cm. The plant that had full sunlight grew pretty well, and it grew 13 cm. The plant under the box grew the least, and it grew 10 cm.

Conclusion We learned that plants need sunlight to grow. Even though the plant on the back counter grew the most, it was not as green and healthy as the one that got full sun, as you can see. This supports our hypothesis.
