Main Characters  Encyclopedia Brown – A young boy that lives in Idaville who is one of the best detectives. He is ten years old, has brown hair, and has blue eyes.  Chief Brown – Is Encyclopedia Brown’s father and is the chief of the Idaville police department.  Bugs – Is a boy that causes most of the trouble in most of the stories in this book.

Setting  Town – Idaville  Detective agency location – Garage at the Brown home  Most of the mysteries take place in Idaville

Plot of a few of the mysteries  The case of the secret pitch – Encyclopedia Brown investigates Bug’s claim that he sent a letter to his favorite Yankee player telling him his secret pitch.  The case of the wounded toe – Encyclopedia Brown tries to find out if Bugs shot one of his friends in the toe.  The case of the hungry hitchhiker – Encyclopedia Brown and his Dad are on a police chase trying to catch criminals when they come across a hitchhiker. Encyclopedia Brown thinks he is one of the criminals.
