Vision: Why are we here? The CDO is just another example of “we-must-have-a-chief” for every technology trend/development that comes along. What do you mean by the “digital campus” – the academic experience? the more “business” side of academics? both? Isn’t it all digital now? Why are we giving it a special label? Isn’t the label “digital media” redundant? All media is digital at this point. Is there a sea change underfoot, or is all of this focus on digital just a small ripple in the ocean? What should the role of the CIO and his/her IT organizations be in all of this?

Other: We have a Chief Digital Learning Officer dealing with On-Line Learning The focus has been on the development of a strategy vs. hiring a CDO The CIO is responsible. We are still defining what "digital" is and whether it is unique enough to warrant a separate role. So far, we don't think so. I as the CIO am fully capable of handling CDO responsibilities. We do not need another position. Other: Really dealing with the issues around the academy and how instruction will or won't change has been the biggest concern Though most of the IT that would be part of the CDO portfolio resides in central IT, the Libraries would want major involvement, so it is not clear where leadership would reside nor how to structure a CDO so s/he would be effective. There is no inclination that "digital" is a separate need We don't have a conversation around CDO. Digital issues are on the radar of executive leadership and are addressed at a multitude of levels across the institution Multiple groups across campus tend to address the parts of digital that touch them but don't always think about collaborating proactively with other offices that could or should play a role. I do not appreciate the leading nature of these questions where a CDO is assumed to be needed.
