S.T.E.M. INITIATIVE Adv. STEM MATH Gifted STEM & STEM SCIENCE ENGINEERING -PLTW GATEWAY- CONNECTIONS

S.T.E.M. PILOT PROGRAM WHAT?  Teaching through facilitation and coaching.  Learning through discovery and problem- based activities.  Linking Technology and Math to Life Science themes.  Seeking State Certification in HOW?  Pull-out STEM Classes.  Classes scheduled as an instructional block.  Mastery of the standards, along a different timeline / pacing chart. Pull in 8 th & 9 th grade curriculum standards as needed.  Accountable through GA Milestones.

S.T.E.M. PILOT COHORT WHO?  SY 15-16: 7 th graders 1. All 6 th graders can apply on-line. 2. Cohort will reflect our school’s demographics. 3. ~ 50 students in the 1 st Cohort. 4. Will extend to 6 th & 8 th grades in SY HOW?  Selection by the STEM teachers & administrators based on: 1. Application & writing tasks 2. Teacher recommendations 3. Attendance & behavior records & academic achievement 4. Performance on a collaborative task

STEM Cohort Commitments 1. Can’t be in Accelerated Math. Will be on track for high level math in high school. 2. Will be required to participate in one STEM connections class. 3. Will remain in the STEM cohort for the entire year. 4. Will maintain excellent attendance, behavior and grades in all content areas. 5. Participate in the Summer STEM Camp (1 Day – late July) 6. Active parent support.
