Batting position and order

FAQ 1. When does this become official and binding? 4. What is the penalty for batting out of order? 5. What do we do next? 3. Who can appeal? When can they appeal? 2. At what point do we have a violation?

The answers to questions 2-5 are found in rule 7.1 and 7.2 The answer to question 1 is found in rule 1.2

Who can appeal ? When can the appeal be made by the offense? The offense may appeal while the improper batter is at bat What is the Penalty The proper batter takes his place and assumes the count to the improper batter. All advances by runners during the at bat are LEGAL.

Who can appeal ? When can the appeal be made by the Defense The Defense may appeal while the improper batter is at bat What is the Penalty The proper batter takes his place and assumes the count to the improper batter. All advances by runners during the at bat are LEGAL.

Who can appeal ? When can the appeal be made by the Defense The Defense may appeal after the improper batter has completed his time at bat.

What is the time frame ? Appeal must be made prior to………. The first pitch (legal or illegal) or The first play or attempted play or Intentional base on balls or All infielders leave the diamond at the end of a half inning

What is the penalty ? 1. All runners return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch. 2. All outs made on the play stand 3. The proper batter is called out. 4. The out for batting out of order supersedes the out made by the batter runner.

Who bats next? The batter who’s name follows the Proper Batter in the batting order.

What if an appeal is made too late? When a pitch (legal or illegal) or an intentional base on balls has occurred or all infielders have left the field before an appeal is made the IMPROPER BATTER BECOMES A PROPER BATTER

Who bats next? The batter who’s name follows the LEGALIZED PROPER BATTER in the batting order.

What if he is on base? The player is not out but remains on base. The next batter will be the name that follows him in the order.

What we need to know if there is an appeal 1. The line up card presented at the pregame conference is official 2. Who batted prior to the alleged improper batter. (the last known legal batter) 3. What name follows the last legal batter 4. Is that the player who just completed his turn at bat?
