AMU Time September 2014

School Site Visits  President will begin to visit school sites starting in October.  If you know your school sites AMU time please it to me  If I cannot make AMU time, then I will schedule a visit during lunch.

 Eboard voted to get rid of the communications committee.  Budget issues  Based on the last 3 years the role had minimal duties Communications Committee

Safety Committee Contract language A Safety Committee shall be established and convene no less than twice annually to review and make recommendations to GDPS regarding safety concerns, policies, and related protocols AMU shall be entitled to two (2) representatives on the Safety Committee, and the following stakeholders shall be offered membership on the Safety Committee: two (2) ACEA representatives; GDPS’s Chief Operating Officer; GDPS’s Security Manager or equivalent position; two (2) school site administrators; and a GDPS Cluster Director. The parties may add members to the Safety Committee as mutually agreed upon by AMU and GDPS.

Safety Committee  Members that are interested in being on this committee have reached out.  We will be sending out applications for those members that have expressed an interest in the committee  The safety committee will meet during the school day 1-3.  One meeting in the fall and one in the spring.  They will not receive a stipend.

Benefits Committee Report  Change in contract language to the benefits committee this year: “AMU shall be entitled to two (2) representatives on the Health Benefits Committee and the following stakeholders shall be offered membership on the Health Benefits Committee: two (2) ACEA representatives; GDPS’s Chief Operating Officer; GDPS’s Director of Human Resources; and two (2) school site administrators. The parties may add members to the Benefits Committee as mutually agreed upon by AMU and GDPS.”  The Green dot wide benefits committee will meet during the school day from 1-3.  A stipend will not be provided for those on the committee except for the benefits chair.

Membership Committee Report We currently do not have a membership chair. Bristol went out on maternity leave. President will be taking over until we find someone to fulfill this role. We have approximately 110 new members this year.

Bargaining Committee Report In October members will be surveyed to prioritize bargaining October 29 th sunshine letters to Green dot November 18 th first bargaining meeting is scheduled We will be coordinating with the safety and benefits committee

Grievance Committee Report Nancy Wang  Counselor evaluation grievance- Level III  Counselor complaint grievance- Level III  Counselor written warning grievance- settled at the informal level  Locke PLV grievance- Level III  Locke start time grievance- informal level  Locke Dress Code- Demand to bargain was issued

Grievances cont.. Counselor evaluation grievance- Level III This grievance is carried over from last year. A counselor’s evaluation was not followed according to the contract. She was being evaluated by two administrators without being informed. Her goals meeting took place after the deadline. She was given low scores despite having shown that she met the criteria. Counselor written warning grievance-Settled at the informal level  A counselor at Locke was written up for allegedly incorrectly writing Individual Learning Plans.  The allegations made by the administration were incorrect  Based on records and documentation kept by the member, AMU was able to show the allegations were incorrect  The written warning was dismissed

Grievances Cont… Locke School Wide-Start time/Clocking In:  Admin at Locke unilaterally decided to implement a “Teacher Preparation Time Before School.” They distributed a bell schedule requiring members to be at school 25 minute before the start of school.  AMU filed a grievance.  We are currently at the informal level Dress Code:  Locke distributed a gender base dress code to members during the first week of school.  AMU filed a demand to bargain under the notion that this presented a change in working conditions.  We demanded the dress code at Locke follow the dress code in the Green dot Handbook.

Middle School Riffs  Animo Ellen Ochoa and Animo Mae Jemison Middle School are both under enrolled  Management hired 3 ELA teachers ( following the middle school model)  Placed a financial hardship on both schools  Contract languages states the following: “28.2 There shall be no layoffs during the school year unless mutually agreed upon by AMU and GDPS management.”  AMU agreed to only one RIFF at Animo Mae Jemison but not at Animo Ellen Ochoa  This was because management did not follow the contract at Ellen Ochoa.  Before consulting with AMU they began the RIFF process at Ellen Ochoa. They only consulted with us after they made the announcement to their staff and informed the teacher who would be riffed of their status.  We pushed back and said “no”

RIFFs  Animo Mae Jemison- the process was followed according to the contract.
