Stations of the Cross Via Crucis “Way of the Cross”

Jesus is condemned to death “So Pilate gave sentence that their demand should be granted. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.” Luke 23:

Jesus takes up His cross “And He said to all, ‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. ” Luke 9:23

Jesus falls the first time “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

Jesus meets His sorrowful mother “So the soldiers did this. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” John 19:25

Simon of Cyrene helps carry the cross “As they went out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; this man they compelled to carry his cross.” Matthew 27:32

Veronica wipes the face of Jesus “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” John 14:9

Jesus falls a second time “Come to me all you who labor and are heavily laden and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Jesus meets the holy women of Jerusalem “But Jesus turning to them said, ‘Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.’” Luke 23:28

Jesus falls the third time “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11

Jesus is stripped of His garments “When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom.” John 19:23

Jesus is nailed to the cross “And they crucified Him, and divided His garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.” Mark 15:24

Jesus dies on the cross “And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.” Mark 15:37

Jesus is taken down from the cross “After he took the body down, he wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb in which no one had yet been buried.” Luke 23:53

Jesus is placed in the tomb “And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock; and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and departed.” Matthew 27:60
