Getting Started The first thing to do is browse through our brochures and our catalogues as you bring about a unique concept for your space. Sit back with a comforting beverage and let your dreams begin. What you aar seeing is a mind’s projection, sort of.

Getting Started Again The next thing to do is consolidate your dream and make sure it is realistic (as boring and deflating as that may be) with the space you have. The second thing to do is measure the space you plan to decorate and take a straight-on digital photo of your space. Divide your space measurements by 12 to get the scale you need to use this catalogue and for planning. Also scale your photo to match. This can all be done manually or digitally. You can now adjust your layouts and plans using the 12:1 scale in our catalogues. Include all windows, doors, furniture and other obstructions. Once you have prepared your layout space, you can use our downloaded brochures and catalogues to start laying out your own unique wall or ceiling mural or, room enhancing decorations. Think of it as a cut and paste game. You can work digitally with the catalogues if you have a suitable computer application. Simply print, copy and paste or drag and drop the applique images that appeal to you. Please remember, your scale must remain 12:1 for the catalogue images to be the most help to you and do not lose the appropriate catalogue numbers. See next page.

A reduced view of one page from the Aarart Applique Catalogue #1. The catalogues will be invaluable for laying out your dream into your space as they aar all at 12:1 scale. This means problems will become obvious right away. Plan carefully.

Catalogue Numbers: A Life Saving Read This catalogue number expresses the image name, the image designation, the image position, the image version, no image variation, it is not a flopped (A) variant, and the size in metric. VineATopSummerA000x000 In this second catalogue number, we see that we have Vine A, in the centre position of the whole vine, of the fall version, a night variation which is a flopped (B) variant and it’s size in metric. VineACenFalNigB000x000 In this third catalogue number we see that it is Vine B, from the bottom position, a summer version, of the evening variation, not flopped and it’s size in metric. In the catalogue, the second line (in red) gives you the imperial (inches) measurements and price for that item. VineBBotSumEveA000x000 You will see helpful examples of using a printed version of the appropriate catalogue pages and their catalogue numbers on the next pages.

Now that you have reached this point, you may be feeling a wee bit unsure of what, exactly, you have gotten yourself into. Fair enough. We have a simple and low risk solution to your dilemma. Pick one or more of the applique from your creation that could be used in a different way or somewhere else. They need to be more than our $50.00 minimum custom order limit but not include all the applique you need to fully complete your creation. Now you have options. You will love what you receive but if, for some reason, you have changed your mind you can adapt what you have for a new purpose or give them to someone. Just be sure you like that someone because you will receive a great deal of attention, affection and praise!

If you need to paint your wall, now is the time. Your mind’s eye sees a cyan background colour that everything else will sit on so carefully choose a hue and value that matches your vision. There aar many painting options to choose from and each has it’s strong and weak points that you should investigate and practice. Here aar some samples; brush, sponge, daub and smudging that can create wonderfully subtle cloud, vegetation or water textures. They aar used only to paint around the applique however so do not use these techniques under where the applique will go because of that texture. Try not to touch or pile up your paint against the applique as it may effect the adhesive. Spray under painting will give you a wonderful mist, fog or cloud effect and can be used under the applique. After curing that is. Careful masking of the applique may allow for tweaking after instillation. Blending the techniques can give you the best of both.

Let’s move on with a trial mounting where you planned your original creation. Since our applique can be remounted on appropriately prepared surfaces, try holding it in place. If you aar feeling more confident now, you can do a small highlight painting, let it dry and cure. Since it is smaller than your original plan, it will simply blend into the larger highlight you planned.

You will find yourself confident enough at this point to just hold up your applique rather than mount it. That is a good choice and once made, you can now order the remainder of your applique.

Once you have gathered some images, you can start off with an initial assembly from which you can move, remove, replace, twist and turn to your hearts content and with anyone you think may be helpful.

After you have completed your initial layout, try creating alternative layouts using copies of your images so you will have options to choose from. Try different sizes or variants. Co-workers and friends may have some great ideas. Take advantage of them. Take your time. Have fun! Have a party! Once you have your final layout and paste-up completed, it will help you to put up your applique layers in the proper order. What is behind everything must go up before everything else, layer by layer. It would be very helpful to download and read our other How To Do It publications. They explain simple, medium and advanced installations and how layering works. Please do not lose the catalogue numbers as you aar now ready to place your order at aarart.com and choose Order Applique. Please allow 3-4 weeks for production and delivery. While you aar patiently awaiting the arrival of your applique, you need to prepare your wall, ceiling and do any background painting. This will allow time for the paint to dry and cure. It’s a very good idea to download and read our other life saving How To Do It publications. They explain working with layers, painting techniques and simple, medium and advanced installations.

This is a view of your final paste-up choice.

This is a view of your final paste-up as a projection onto your space. From here, you can spray paint on the highlight colours where necessary.

If you wish to have highlight painting in the space, do it now to allow drying and curing of your paint. At this point you may have questions. These will be answered by reading our other invaluable How To Do It publications at aarart.com. They explain simple, medium and advanced installations.

You can find full installation instructions for this creation in Aarart Applique, How To Do It, Simple Complexity Made Easy at aarart.com. All the very best from Aarart Applique!
