Prime Factorization Factors are the numbers you multiply together to get another number: 2 × 3 = 6 factor

Prime Factorization is finding which prime numbers multiply together to make the original number. To find the prime factors of a number create a factor tree.

Example 1: So, 48 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 or, 2 4 × 3

Whiteboard time: So, 36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 or, 2 2 × 3 2

So, 150 = 2 × 3 × 5 × 5 or, 2 × 3 × 5 2

So, 540 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 5 or, 2 2 × 3 3 × 5 25
