Science Experiment on The Growth of Potato’s Submitted by: Jason Brown Submitted to: Mrs. Johnson Date: October 8, 2012

Day One My experiment is to determine the best way to grow potato’s in my home. I started with 9 potato’s. We put 3 potato’s in some water and placed them in the closet, we placed 3 in water on the window sill to get plenty of sun, and left 3 in a bag in the closet.

Day Two I checked all of the potatoes and there was not any changes.

Day Three I didn’t see any major changes in the potatoes no spurts or spuds but there was minor discoloration in the water the potato’s were in. No change with the potato’s in the closet.

Day Four By day four there was a bad smell in the air coming from the potato’s on the window sill and and in the closet. Upon inspecting the potatoes we discovered that the potatoes submerged in the water in the closet and on the window sill had softened and were falling apart. We had to throw out these potatoes because they were falling apart. The potatoes in the bag in the closet started to sprout spuds.

Day Five We examined the 3 remaining potatoes the first potato had 8 spuds, the second potato had 7 spuds, and the third potato had 12 spuds. The best way to grow potato’s are to leave them in the dark closet and not put them in water. This way they will grow sprouts and you can plant them in your garden.
