1. Define the following terms.

a. Coping Dealing successfully with difficult changes in your life.

b. Grief response An individuals total response to a major loss.

c. Closure Is the state of reaching an acceptance of a loss.

d. Mourning Is the act of showing sorrow or grief.

2. List three factors that might affect the way a person responds to loss. Include the manner of loss His or her perspective on the lost relationship His or her ability to remain open to interaction in other relationships.

3. What is the purpose of the grieving process? Is to reach closure.

4. What do the stages of grief identified in part by Dr 4. What do the stages of grief identified in part by Dr. Kubler-Ross reflect? The stages of grief reflect a variety of reactions that may occur as people work through the grieving process.

5. List the stages of grief and describe what a person experiences in that stage.

Stage Two: Emotional releases b. List the stages of grief and describe what a person experiences in that stage. Bargaining: involves promises to change if what was lost can be returned. Depression: involves feelings of isolation, alienation and hopelessness. Remorse: involves preoccupation with thoughts about what could have been done to prevent the loss.

c. List the stages of grief and describe what a person experiences in that stage. Stage Three: Acceptance: involves facing reality in constructive ways.

d. List the stages of grief and describe what a person experiences in that stage. Stage Four: Hope: involves remembering with less pain and looking to the future.

6. List two suggestions that help when you are experiencing the breakup of a relationship. Allow yourself to feel the pain Remember that you can’t control another person’s decisions and behaviors Be thankful for the good times. Give yourself time to heal.

7. List four things you can do to help cope with the death of a relative or friend. Reflect on who you were before the loss and who you will be after grieving. Focus on what you were able to do in the relationship. Remember wonderful things about the person and things you did together. Seek the support of others. Write a letter to say good-bye.

8. List four effective coping mechanisms that can ease the process of coping with disasters and crises. Spend time with other people and discuss your feelings. Get back to daily routines as quickly as possible. Eat nutritious foods, exercise, and get enough rest and sleep. Do something positive to help your community through the event.

MATH PROBLEM Among children and adolescents, the portion of those who suffer from mental health problems is 20 percent. If a third of these individuals receive treatment, what percentage of these children and adolescents do not get the help for mental disorders?

MATH PROBLEM ANSWER 20% X X 66.66% = =13.3%
