This picture was distributed by a group of people to show and highlight a rocky streak found on the Moon, this proves that indeed the Moon has been split in two at one time. According to Islamic traditions (Hadith) the following is the story behind this phenomenon. During the time of the Prophet (pbuh) The Pagans of Mecca Said to the Prophet of Allah (pbuh) “ If you’re truthful, then split the moon in two for us” And in return they promised that they will believe that he is the Prophet of Allah. Hence, The Prophet (pbuh) asked Allah to give him what they asked for. It was also reported, that night, was a full moon night. Hence, Allah answered the Prophet’s supplication by splitting the moon in two halves. Half was seen over the mountain of SAFA and the other on top of mountain of Quiqaan. When the pagans saw this, they said “Muhammad (pbuh) bewitched us, then they said ” If he bewitched us, then he can’t bewitch all people.” Then the pagan, Abu Jahil said ” Let us wait till we receive some travelers to verify, for us, that it was split, if not, then he only bewitched our eyes.” Afterwards, when the travelers arrived, they too confirmed, seeing the moon split in two. Regardless, Abu Jahil and other pagans did not fulfill their promise and refused to believe and said “ This is a persistent Magic.” So Allah revealed the Sura of the Moon “The hour drawn near and the moon has split, and if they see a sign they turn their backs and say it is persistent magic, they lied and followed their desires and surely, every matter will be settled and indeed they’ve heard the news wherein, there is enough warning, perfect wisdom, but breaching the warnings benefit them not, So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner, summoneth them unto a painful thing.”.
