Understanding Fillers

Color Fillers Color Fillers- Color pigment concentrate (pure color) without mixing with developer. Why use it? 1. Recommended when coloring hair more than two shades darker. 2. Color Fading  If client’s haircolor fades greatly between services. 3. Tonal Value  If client’s tone is undesirable or has an unnatural cast.

Color Fillers Continue How is it created? Determine missing primary color at the existing level and add missing primary color(s) to hair before actual color formula is applied. Effect on hair? Provides more natural tones to the hair; demi- permanent hair colors are usually used; no lightening occurs.

Correcting Yellow-Blonde Hair When correcting yellow-blonde haircolor, the missing primary colors are blue and red, which makes violet. Violet cancels out yellow, making a natural blonde tone.

Correcting Orange Tone Hair Orange haircolor (red and yellow primary) is missing blue to make a natural tone. Blue cancels out orange, resulting in a natural medium blonde haircolor. Photo source: color-damage-hair-by-rodolfo-valentin.jpghttp:// color-damage-hair-by-rodolfo-valentin.jpg

Correcting Red Tones When correcting haircolor that is too red, add the primary colors missing; yellow and blue, which make green. Most haircolor companies either have pure green or ash-base colors to use in correction. Photo source:

Points to Remember Primary colors always cancel out secondary colors. Secondary colors always cancel out primary colors. Adding blue to yellow- blonde haircolor turns green—remember to include red.

How Are Color Fillers Applied? How is a filler applied? Most cosmetologists apply filler first, let process, then apply desired haircolor right over the filler. Some cosmetologists process the filler, rinse, shampoo, and then apply haircolor. Experience will dictate procedure preferred.

Benefits to Using Color Fillers Deposits haircolor to faded tint. Helps hair hold color longer. Prevents streaking and dull, flat appearance in hair. Avoids off-color results, unnatural tints. Produces natural uniform colors.

Conditioner Fillers What does it do? 1. Helps equalize porosity in the hair. 2. Reconditions damaged hair, making it easier to accept the haircolor. When is it applied? Before the haircolor formula is applied to the hair. How is it applied? Put pure conditioner in bottle and apply to hair, then add haircolor formula directly over the conditioner.
