First reading A reading from the book of Isaiah (Is 60:1-8)

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. The Word of the Lord 10

Lord, every nation on Earth will adore you. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 72) Lord, every nation on Earth will adore you.

God will rule the people with goodness And the poor people with fairness. Lord, every nation on Earth will adore you.

He will be like rain that falls on grass that people have just cut He will be like rain that falls on grass that people have just cut. He will be like showers that bring water to the earth. Lord, every nation on Earth will adore you.

When He is king, a good person will do well When He is king, a good person will do well. There will be peace until there is no moon! Lord, every nation on Earth will adore you.

Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, Alleluia A great prophet has appeared among us; God has visited his people. Alleluia.

The Lord be with you. AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT. 16

A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (Matthew 2: 1-12) Glory to you, O Lord.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the days of King Herod, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to worship him." When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and asked his advisers where the Christ was to be born. They told him, "In Bethlehem.” Then Herod called the wise men secretly and sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search for the child, and when you have found him tell me, that I too may come and worship him." When they had heard the king they went their way; and the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they felt great joy; and going into the stable they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went to their own country by another way.

The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

Intercessions The response is: Hear our prayer. 20

For the Church, to whom a promise has been given; May we be a light for all the nations showing God to the world. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For the world upon whom light has come; May places overshadowed by war and devastation - especially the Philippines - be raised up and shine, radiant with peace. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For those far from home; scattered throughout the world: May they continue to walk by the light of Christ and find the star that will lead them safely home. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer

For this new year filled with expectation; For all who hope in God’s promise: May this year be filled with God’s grace and light, especially for those covered by the clouds of homelessness, depression, disease, loneliness, and unemployment. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer

For those who have died this year whom we have missed during this Christmas season, May the glory of the Lord shine upon them and gather us all into the arms of God. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We pray the Hail Mary.
