The Survival guide By: Philip Adair

Rules At Camp Green Lake Can not leave your hole before you finish. Are not allowed to help dig other people’s holes. Can not go into your tent to rest, until your hole is finished. Your hole has to be as deep as your shovel, which is 5 feet long, and you would have to be able to lay your shovel flat across the bottom in any direction. Can not bring guns, explosives, weapons, drugs, or alcohol onto the premises. Can not leave at any time to rest in the Warden’s hammock, under the shade of the only two trees.

More Rules Are only allowed a four-minute shower. If you find anything when you’re digging that is valuable, you have to show it to the Warden. Can not talk back to any of the counselors. Can not steal any of the counselors possessions, including the food and water.

Helpful Advice Eating onions will help prevent being bitten by a yellow-spotted lizard. Do not steal Mr. Sir’s sunflower seeds. Avoid digging at noon, since that is the hottest part of the day. Try to stay in the shade as much as possible. If you’re digging behind someone, make sure that he does not hit you with the shovel. Call everyone by their nickname or they will get mad at you. If the Warden gets angry at you, you should watch out for her fingernails.

Some More Advice For Staying At Camp Green Lake The Warden has cameras watching you, so do not do anything suspicious. Look for yellow-spotted lizards in the hole before you enter. You should remain calm if there is a yellow-spotted lizard on you.

The “Must-haves,” For Camp Green Lake Some onions to eat in case you meet a yellow-spotted lizard. A pair of gloves that would help you with digging holes. An alarm clock to help wake you up at an early time. Some comfortable clothing to wear after you are done digging. Sunscreen to put on when you go out to dig your hole. Sunglasses and a hat to protect your face and be able to see when the sun is in your eyes.

More Equipment Needed For Camp Stationery paper and a pencil to keep in touch with your family and friends. Soap and a towel for taking a shower. A pair of durable shoes or boots to protect your feet from the hard terrain. A Toothbrush and toothpaste to keep your teeth clean.

Comments From Former Campers “Well, the first hole’s the hardest,” Magnet said. (page 35) “The second hole’s a lot harder. You’re hurting before you even get started,” said X-Ray. (page 45) “I’ve been here for almost a year. I’ve never found anything,” said X-Ray. (page 52) ‘The third hole’s the hardest,” X-Ray said. (page 55) “They’re going to finally let you out of here?” asked Magnet. (page 56)

More Comments About Camp “You can pretend you found it first thing in the morning. Then you can get the whole day off, instead of just a hour or so this afternoon.” said Stanley. (page 62) “What kind of camp are you running here, Ms. Walker?” Said the Attorney General. (page 220)

Thoughts About Camp Life “They weren’t just digging to “build character.” They were definitely looking for something.” said Stanley. (page 71) “That’s the last hole I will ever dig.” Zero said. (page 185) “If I had just kept those old smelly sneakers, then neither of us would be here right now.” said Zero. (page 184)
