1882 On 2 February 1882, James Joyce was born, Dublin. He was the eldest surviving son of John Stanislaus Joyce, rate collector, and Mary Jane Joyce (née Murray). Oldest of fifteen born, oldest of ten to survive moved from Brighton Square to 23 Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines The Joyce family moved to Bray sent to Clongowes Wood College (Jesuit) 1891 (Age 9) his first printed work, with the title of Et Tu, Healy financial decline. A creditor seized the Joyce furniture and the Joyces left Blackrock for a dwelling in the city Belvedere College, also a Jesuit school, from April family moved from Fitzgibbon Street to Drumcondra Moves to North Richmond Street and then Windsor Avenue Another move 1901 letter to Ibsen increasingly involved in Irish Renaissance Attends University College, Dublin; breaks with his Catholic background, choice to be a writer solidifies; begins publishing essays and reviews in Fortnightly Review 1902 leaves for Paris, publishes book reviews in Dublin papers returns home for mother’s illness.
