Ovariohysteroctomy Synonyms: *Spay or spaying *Panhysterectomy *Neutring or neutralization *Castration *Sterilization

Indication 1-Electivesterilization (the most common indication) 2- Treatment of choice for most uterine diseases: pyometra, uterine rupture, uterine torsion, cystic endometrial hyper plasia, uterine or overian neoplasia, metritis or endometritis. 3- recurrent pseudo pregnancy. 4- certain skin disease. 5- mammary gland tumors 6-recurrent uterine prolapse 7-som congenital conditions. 8- neglected dystocia

Anatomy 1-ovaries: located 1-3cm caudal to the kidneys 2-uterus : consist of cervix, body and tow horne. 3- ligaments: a. mesovarium. b. suspensory lig. c. the proper lig. d. broad lig. the round lig.

The operation *under general anesthesia *manually express the urinary bladder *prepare the entire ventral abdominal region for aseptic surgery *dorsal recumbence *skin incision dog :ventral midline incision extended from the umbilicus to a point half way between the umbilicus and brim of pubis. Cat :1 cm caudal to the umbilicus extend 3-5 cm. caudally.

complication 1- bleeding 2-overian remnant syndrome (recurrent Estrus) 3-urinary incontinence (especially in older bitches ) 4-body weight gain (obesity) 5-Evasceration 6-fistulous,tracts,and granulomas. (usually occur when using non absorbable multifiliments suture material,polymarized caprolactam ) 7- ligation of ureter. 8-urinary incontinence. 9- uterin stump pyometra.(when there is portion of uterine body and increase in prostaglandin )
