The Saudi Arabian government follows the Quran and Islamic law. It is a Monarchy, and ruled by King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Arabian economy’s income is made by a big percentage of petroleum product trade; they have exported over $238 billion worth of oil. Saudi oil reserves are one of the largest in the world, they provide one quarter of the world’s supply. They also farm dates and grains, and vegetables.

96% of the total native population of Saudi Arabians are Muslim, particularly from the Sunni sect. Christianity is practiced by only 3.5% of the total population and Hinduism is practiced by 0.6% population. The major religious monuments in Saudi Arabia include the Ka’ba and Black stone located in Mecca, Masjid Al- Haram in Mecca, and the Prophet’s mosque in Medina.

The majority of Saudi Arabian people speak Arabic and English. The most common language spoken by people other than natives is Urdu.

NATURAL FEATURES(3) As you can see to the right, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian sea all border Saudi Arabia. Also, a large part of the Arabian Peninsula is in Saudi Arabia. (4) The Arabian Peninsula is a great desert peninsula filled with minerals, and vast reserves of petroleum and gas.

Man Made features. Some of the most historical and holy sites in the history of Islam are located in Saudi Arabia, this includes the Ka’ba, the Prophet’s mosque, the black stone, and many more. (4) An old town called Al-Balad is a popular tourist site. It is filled with old and historical buildings, and many historical sites.

Clothing in Saudi Arabia (5) Men and boys wear the thawb, an ankle length piece of clothing which is long and fits loosely. Athough the thawb covers almost the entire body, it allows air to circulate freely. Women wear long and modest clothing, in traditional cites, and for special occasions, women wear a long dress with full sleeves, it is called jallabia (or sometimes a thawh).

Culture

Customs in Saudi Arabia To greet someone, people in Saudi Arabia say “Assalamu-Alaikum” which as you probably already know is a common greeting in Saudi Arabia, it means “Peace be with you” and “may God bless you”.

(2) Creative Arts in Saudi Arabia Modern, and historical poetry. Storytelling Islamic Art in mosques and architecture. Hand lettered calligraphy in Qurans and holy texts.

(6)Physical Map of Saudi Arabia

(6)Political Map of Saudi Arabia

Only men are allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, women can only drive with a male relatives approval (unfair!!) It’s normal to see someone praying on the side of the road! Diesel (surprisingly) only costs you 50 cents a liter!! FAST FACTS ABOUT SAUDI ARABIA
